Hi,
Looks like I got hacked, eh? Dear Madam...sheesh. Same thing happened with my email. Changed passwords and I think I'm all set. I deleted the post too. Thanks for the heads up, Den.
Where the heck have I been? Wow... the train trip was awesome! I had a great time. I spent 95% of my time at a booth in the cafe car reading, beading, and watching the country go by. I'll definitely do it again, however, I think I'll fly home next time. When it was time to go home, I just wanted to be here. Another 3 days on the train was okay, but by the last day, it was getting tiresome.
There were some delays here and there, which made us late a couple of times, but nothing overly drastic. Except for the first night when I was seated with a young guy who spent the entire 18 hrs beside me with earbuds in and his laptop glowing, I had both seats to myself so was able to lay down across the seats for sleeping. It's not Sealy Posturpedic, but still better than reclining.
I had a wonderful time in AZ. Spent time at the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Jerome, Arcosanti, Flagstaff and Phoenix. We hit a terrible storm coming out of the Grand Canyon...scary sky, amazing lightening and then a hail storm that I thought would break the windshield. They'd just had tornadoes about 3 wks prior and we were scared we would get caught in another. The hail actually peeled all of the paint off of Denny's Saab emblem on the hood. Crazy...
I met this large fella (or lady) on the dirt road into Arcosanti. It was slowly traveling across the road and only Den's quick stop kept it from being smashed. Was about the size of my palm. Ewwww...
So, so many things happened during the 2 weeks that it would take me forever to recount it all. There was on awful thing that happened when I was there. I got a phone call telling me that my cousin Maureen's son had died unexpectedly during the night of Oct 21. He had a heart attack, apparently. 39 yrs old. He is 3 days older than my daughter. Maureen and I shared our pregnancies and almost our deliveries. RIP, Scott!
While there, I received lots of birthday gifts and did some gift shopping myself. Because my suitcase and carry-on were overstuffed as it was, I left it all behind for Denny to box up and mail to me. The box was sent through the post office in Phoenix on Thurs, Nov 4 and arrived at my house on the following Tuesday... empty. Yes, I said empty. Not even a speck of dust left in the box. The bottom seal had broken open somewhere along the route and all contents were gone. There was a LOT of stuff in that box...about 20 items that I can recall. We have filed reports, but I don't imagine I will ever see any of it again. Makes me sad to think about it still, but trying to keep it in persepective. People lose much more precious things every minute of the day. Like Maureen and her son, for instance.
Thanksgiving tomorrow! It's just Tammy and I this year and I didn't feel like cooking, so we are going out to eat with some friends instead. I will probably regret not cooking tomorrow evening when there are no leftovers to snack on, but for now, I'm happy to leave the cooking to someone else. It's actually not even the cooking...it's the damned mess it makes and all of the cleaning up to do.
It's official! Denny will be coming home for Christmas with Michael! Yay... Booked his flight today. He wasn't here last year and they are staying for 2 weeks, so we are very excited. :)
Gotta scoot...wish I could promise to be better about writing here, but I hate to break promises, so I'll just say that I'll "try".
Peace and Happy Thanksgiving!
Kay
